"Poppy Country Tour" : Remembrance Trails & Nature

- 1 day tour "Land of History"

This region of Picardie was scarred in 1916 by the terrible Battle of the Somme, which left so many young soldiers dead and wounded. This battle involved 30 different nations. Today traces left by this tragic event can be seen throughout the countryside. The remembrance trail has been created to help visitors follow the sites of the battles, to discover the traces left by the war, the cemeteries and impressive monuments.

8h30 Pick up by mini-bus

Visit : Welcome by the tour guide at the Somme 1916 museum,
Visit the "Parc Terre Neuvien" at Beaumont Hamel
Go past the "Ulster Tower"
Go to visit the "Thiepval Memorial"
Visit the battle site at "Pozières"
Visit the site at "La Boisselle"

12h15 – 13h15 Lunch Break Packed Lunch taken At "John's Snack" bar in La Boisselle
Continue the tour

Go past the sites of :
- Contalmaison, to see the Cairn 
- Longueval, South African Museum (photo stop) 
- Combles
- Rancourt to see the Chapel and German cemetery
- Péronne to visit the Austrailian memorial and the Historial de la Grande Guerre, the most impressive museum in the old citadelle.

Folowed by a "Nature tour" through the following villages :
- Cléry
- Monacu
- Feuillères
- Frise
- Eclusier
- Vaux


Stop at the "Belvédère de Vaux", a panoramic viewing point overlooking lakes and marshes, followed by a 15 minute walk.
Drive by Suzanne, Cappy to see the Monument to the dead soldiers, the nautical base, Bray sur Somme
And finally returning to Albert for 5 pm, where you will be dropped off at your different hotels.



- 1 day tour "The natural beauty of the region"

The Valley of the "Haute–Somme" has many species of fauna and flora registered with Natura 2000, and is renowned throughout Europe. We would like to show you three sites of exceptional interest in this valley. At the "Belvédère N.D de Vaux" you will be able to learn of the tumultuous history of the Somme Valley, and see the River Somme as it meanders through the many lakes and marshes.

At the "Belvédère de Frise", we will help you discover the natural diversity of the valley, the flowers and wildlife. We will talk about the the Bulrush Buzzard and Blue gorge, marsh bracken, wild orchids, wild oregano, anemone or wind flowers and the beautiful bird songs you can hear.

Le Belvédère César's Camp will give you a panoramic view over the Marshes of Mericourt sur Somme and you will be able to understand how man and nature have been intertwined through the centuries.

Guided visit of the marshes at Méricourt

12h30 - 13h30 Picnic, lunch break

Ride on the Little Train of the Haute Somme
Visit the nautical base at "Cappy"
Drive past the beautiful castle at "Suzanne"
See the eel traps at "Eclusier-Vaux"
Walk to the Belvédère at "Frise"
Walk to the Belvédère at "Vaux"

5 pm return to Albert.
